Happy New You: A Late Post

Welcome to 2021 or 4052! Whatever year it is, makes no never mind because what we know for sure is that time has passed and new time has arrived. The reality is the time is now. The time is now for us to wake up, make moves and waste not another minute. Live like there is no tomorrow. Breathe like it is your final breath. Walk, run and glide to new found destinations.

I compose these words post election day in the USA, post capitol insurrection and now post 46th presidential inauguration. I’ve just completed reading President Obama’s response to the swearing in of our new President Biden and VP Harris. While I didn’t watch the entire event, I did go on YouTube to watch Amanda’s poetic recitation (after a prompt in a WhatsApp group). Boy was I inspired! I was lit up by her voice, her words and her beautiful face. For she is a Black woman! She is a Young Poet Laureate! Amanda is a representation of our future! She is someone my little Black girl can emulate. She is someone who makes me proud. Not proud because she stood on stage with some of the most infamous folks in the world, but proud because she was famous and living her dreams before she received the call to amplify her voice on a world stage. I’m proud to know that her Black mother is the backbone of her existence because to me she was the most important person on that stage yesterday, and it makes me proud.

So this year whether you have 1 re-soul-ution or 1 million and 1 matters not because today is all we’ve got so move your feet and get to work. Time is upon us.
